Life is crazy at this time of year. Getting back into the busy routine of work, family, school, and activities can consume every minute. Of course it feels like a total paradox but these hectic weeks are when it’s more important than ever to make time for you.
I know we have heard it before, but I feel like we all need a reminder sometimes that you won’t have anything left to give to others if you don’t take care of yourself! Like most things in life, I learned this the hard way, by working too hard and ignoring my body’s needs. It took a pretty serious burnout for me to understand that my approach was all wrong and my life was lacking balance.
These days I cherish the balance in my life and do what I can to set some time for myself aside each day. I also work to make my own health as much of a priority as that of my family, friends and all of the Ballet Beauties! To enjoy life to the fullest it’s critical to take time to recharge, workout and get enough sleep. You’ll see the difference not just in how you look, but in how you feel.
Here are a couple of tips for getting moving:
- For starters ditch the guilt and stop thinking that you don’t have time to workout. Life is short – you don’t have time to ignore your own health! The positive side effects of taking care of yourself will make the challenges in the rest of your day so much easier to handle. Think you don’t have 3 hours a week to workout? You do. Begin by fitting in one or two 15-Minute Workouts and build up from there.
- If your days are jammed packed and your evenings are impossibly booked you might want to consider the morning workout. It’s a great way guarantee “you time” and start the day out right.
- Another way to stay motivated and keep priorities in line is to pay attention to how you feel during and after your workout. More energized? Less stressed? When I’m really fried exercise always puts me in a more positive frame of mind!
- If you are already working out and still feel frazzled think about adding on a few extra minutes to stretch your muscles and relax your mind at the end of each workout.
And always remember to do the little things that make a big difference! Drink more water, take time to read a few minutes before bed each night, or schedule a Skype date to catch up with an old friend while you do a face mask! I must say this is one of my favorites. When you make time for yourself it’s amazing how much more efficient life becomes.

I NEED one of those mugs for my evening tea (or, let's be real...hot chocolate)!
